GOLD TONES NEWS
Mr. DeMarco has been invited to be a presenter at the 75th
Annual Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conference in Columbus,
February 8-10, 2007. The Gold Tones will serve as a demonstration group
for the workshop, which will be Thursday, February 8th from 5:15-6:15
p.m. Please stay tuned for more details as they develop.
The
Gold Tones will be traveling to the Lakeland Jazz Festival, at Lakeland
Community in Kirtland on Saturday, February 23 for a performance and
workshop. We will return in time for the musical cast to do their
thing. It is free and open to the public. Parents and family are
invited and encouraged to come. Let us know if you are interested in
being a chaperone.
Mark your calendar for
Saturday, March 10th, as the Gold Tones will travel to Green
High School for the Green High School Jazz Festival. This will be a
day and evening affair. The clinicians will include Mark Vinci and Jim
Rupp, North Canton natives. Mark lives in New York and has been a
member of the orchestras of Woody Herman and Maria Schneider as well as
the lead alto player for Liza Minelli and others. Jim was the drummer
in the bands of Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson. Both of these
gentlemen have worked with our students in the past and are truly great
with the students as well as being incredible musicians. They will be
featured in the evening concert as soloists with the Youngstown State
University Jazz Ensemble, one of Ohio’s finest collegiate bands. This
promises to be a great day and evening of music. Information regarding
times and tickets will follow.
